At this point Juliet fells alone due to the fact that no one wants her to be with Romeo which overall means that she CAN’T be with him.

Act Four, Scene One:

Paris is in the friar’s cell and they are both talking about Juliet, marriage and basically love. At this point Juliet walks in and Paris in no time tries to woes her. Juliet obviously does not give in to it because it would be unfaithful to Romeo. Also Juliet loves Romeo, not Paris. Paris states that he loves Juliet but Juliet can’t tell him ( to his face) that she loves him back. Friar starts to nudge paris out of the cell as things starts to become very awkward between them and he sees that Juliet is in destressed. After paris has left Juliet bursts in to tear a she quote that she cannot marry Paris, that she would kill herself if  she married Paris. Friar, as a messenger of God, tries to keep everyone alive till it’s the right to die ( by God’s choice.) So Friar has an idea that will ensure that Romeo and Juliet will be togetherFirst, Juliet will go a head with the wedding but before she sleeps she will drink a potion that will put her so deep into her sleep that she will appear dead. Act Four, Scene Three:

Then to arrives in her chamber and has a brief chat with the nurse before she leaves. Juliet realizes that this could go wrong but she has no choice and at that point Juliet drinks the potion and fells into a deep sleep. Stage one of the plan is complete.(Also, the plan works out perfectly. Romeo arrives on time and Juliet wakes up which is fate and when you think about it the whole play is based on fate.)

Act Four Scene Four

Original:

I fear too early, for my mind missives

Some consequence yet hanging in the stars

Shall bitterly begin his fearful date

With this night’s revels, and expire the term

Of a despised life closed in my breast
By some vile forfeit of untimely death.
But he that hath the steerage of my course,
Direct my sail. On, lusty gentlemen.
Modern:
I’m worried we’ll get there too early.
I have a feeling this party tonight will be the
start of something bad, something that will
end with my own death.
But the Lord is in charge of where my life’s
going, so steer me Lord wherever you want.
Onward, lover boys!

    How clever are you?

The even bigger challenge (which we will do together at school) will be to create a modern version with as much rich metaphor as the original.

I’m impressed with this, though, Blert. It does the task very well.

I feel a little weak simply saying “well done” from the sidelines, but I also don’t feel the impulse to critique something that is so well done.

The only added material that I would encourage, would be for you to keep track of some helpful quotations – perhaps to match some of your highlighted references to fate.

        Have a good break!
