The poet uses figurative language/ metaphors to show hate in this poem

‘See the CREATURE stalking’

and

‘Where is the SERPENT’S tooth’

Obviously, the person who the speaker is describing is not a serpent or a creature however the connotations of serpent and creature are sly, manipulative (for the serpent) and uncivilised, dirty (for the creature). By the speaker describing the person as manipulative and uncivilised the speaker feels a strong/extreme emotion towards the person. As well as this, people who are manipulated and uncivil stereotypically are not loved which would lead me to believe that the emotion the speaker is feeling is hate
