Ceaser act 4 scene 1

In this scene I have learnt how manipulative Antony is and his own selfish agenda. In the funeral speech promised the people of Rome all of Rome (money, property and power) however in this act Antony, behind closed doors says:

‘Fetch the hither, and we shall DETERMINE how to cut off some charge in the LEGACIES’

By him and octavius determining what happens with the will it takes the power away from the people as well as cutting off the legacies meaning Antony has more money for the civil war that will happen.

  1. Do you feel that Antony has changed at all? Why does Shakespeare keep Antony as a ‘minor’ character until the third act of the play? how does this affect the audience? Why?
